SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) Advisors are there to support Early Years SENCos (special educational needs coordinators), early years practitioners, home-based childcarers and playworkers. They help with early identification of need and support children with reaching their full potential.
SEND Advisors support in many areas to ensure that childcare practitioners are providing an inclusive environment that meets the needs of every child. Depending on demand and the type of support that is required, a member of the SEND team with the specific expertise will be allocated to provide the right support.
A range of support is available for Early Years providers such as training, networks and SEND surgeries, (where face to face advice is given to practitioners).
The SEND Advisors will also visit a setting to help with paperwork or observe an individual child and meet with staff and parents to discuss next steps. They also help with applications for funding and can signpost to other professionals such as SEND Advice Surrey.
If the support is around an individual child then the parent/carers must be made aware and given permission in writing.
