These letters are adapted from IPSEA’s Model Letters (https://www.ipsea.org.uk/model-letters). They are for you to use and adapt as you wish. If you would like a copy emailed to you please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org The letters have been changed to meet Surrey’s procedure.
The Template Letters can be found under the weeks of the EHCP timeframe or Other:
Weeks 1 to 6 is where the request for a needs assessment sits with the L-SPA (Learners single point of access). It is where the LA decide whether they will assess.
Weeks 7 to 16 this is the assessment and evidence gathering time. The SEN Team in the LA will be writing to all the statutory services (and those you may have reasonably requested) to request assessments take place then the LA will use these reports to decide whether they agree to issue an EHCP.
Weeks 16 to 20 is where the LA issue a draft, give you time to make representations (check the content of the draft EHCP), state your placement preference and meet if necessary. It is also the time for the LA to then have time to consider your changes, consult with Schools and then to finalise the EHCP.
